How Campers Are Organized
Overview
Campers at Tohkomeupog are grouped into four separate clans based primarily on grade, with each clan living in their own encampment area — a cluster of cabins nestled among the trees, situated near game courts and playing fields. Each group is led by a dedicated team of counselors working under a Director, who together design a program tailored to the specific interests, energy, and developmental needs of their campers.
The Four Clans

Bear Clan
Completed 2nd–4th Grade
The Bear Clan experience is designed to ease our youngest boys into camp life with a nurturing environment. A full-range of activities is available to the Bears, and plenty of encouragement to try new things. On adventure trips, Bear Clan campers enjoy hiking and canoeing excursions off-property, followed by overnight camping in the wilderness areas located at the far side of our own Purity Lake.

Deer Clan
Completed 4th–6th Grade
The program in the Deer Clan reinforces foundational skills while introducing new challenges and greater independence, supporting boys as they expand their horizons. In the Deer Clan, hiking and canoeing trips become more strenuous, and overnight camping sometimes occurs off-property. Practical experience is gained during camping trips by utilizing skills learned during activity periods.

Panther Clan
Completed 6th–8th Grade
Life in the Panther Clan represents a significant step in the Tohkomeupog experience as campers begin to take on greater personal responsibility within the camp community. In-camp activities progress to higher levels of achievement. Adventure trips become more challenging and more varied, with the introduction of whitewater canoeing, mountain biking and rock climbing as additional options. Camping out often occurs off property as part of the adventure.

Wolf Clan
Completed 8th–10th Grade
The Wolf Clan is composed of our most senior campers at Tohkomeupog, with programming that reflects their growing level of maturity and experience. Boys may focus on activities where they wish to excel. Opportunities exist for more extensive adventure trips with responsibility shared between staff and campers. As campers think about transitioning to staff in the near future, a greater emphasis is placed on developing leadership skills.

CIT Program
Completed 10th–12th Grade (Counselor in Training)
The CIT program bridges the gap between those carefree years of being a camper and the responsibilities of being a counselor at Tohkomeupog. It is a leadership training program, designed for boys who have grown up during summers at camp, and who are now ready to take the next step. The CIT program is challenging and rewarding. Boys completing the experience will gain valuable insight that will benefit them throughout life.
