The Laura Foundation

The Laura Foundation for Autism and Epilepsy is a non-profit organization with a mission to develop and support therapeutic recreation and educational programs that enrich the quality of lives of individuals with autism and/or seizure disorders – www.thelaurafoundation.org

The idea to create this Foundation came with the passing of Laura (Hoyt) Mahoney in 2008. Laura’s greatest joy came from her grandchildren, including Drew, who suffers from both epilepsy and autism. Laura saw first-hand the challenge of these disorders.

The Laura Foundation was formed to help both the individuals afflicted by these conditions, along with the families caring for them.  Our primary goal is the development of an Adaptive Sports and Recreation Center – The Laura Center – to be located in Madison, NH.

The Laura Center will provide a variety of social, educational and recreational programming year-round to those with cognitive and physical disabilities.  While specific programs do exist, the center we envision will be the first of its kind based in New England.

In terms of The Laura Foundation, Halloween Town serves two purposes.  For one, we use the event to connect with the local community… and to raise awareness about our mission. Halloween Town is also a very important fund-raiser for our organization.
