Hiking, Climbing, Paddling, Biking & Camping in NH’s White Mountains
Overview
At Tohkomeupog, outdoor adventure is woven into everything. Experiences such as being away from home for the first time, navigating new friendships and summiting mountain peaks are just a few examples of extraordinary opportunities for personal growth found at camp. In this way, self-discovery through adventure becomes an individualized experience that is nurtured and celebrated.
Outdoor Adventure is a core part of the program. Tohkomeupog is fortunate to be located both within the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, as well as on the edge of the White Mountain National Forest. This creates endless possibilities for exploration. Adventure Trips are one of the most highly anticipated and memorable components of the Tohkomeupog experience.

Activities

Hiking
The experience of hiking along mountain trails is at the core of outdoor adventure programming at Tohkomeupog, and one that is enjoyed by all of the clan groups at camp.

Flat Water Canoeing
Flat water canoeing is another mainstay adventure across all clans. Campers are transported down winding waterways where new discoveries may be waiting around each bend, to more expansive waters across some of New Hampshire’s broadest lakes.

Rock Climbing
Boys in all clans develop confidence and technique using the camp’s on-site climbing wall, one of the more popular activities. As campers advance to the Panther and Wolf Clans, they may take that confidence and skill onto actual rock climbing trips in the field.

Mountain Biking
A network of mountain biking trails throughout camp grounds offers boys in the Panther and Wolf Clans the opportunity to build skills before venturing out on real trail expeditions outside of camp.

White Water Canoeing
Moving beyond the calm waters of Purity Lake, white water canoeing is another milestone activity introduced in the Panther Clan — combining paddling fundamentals with the thrill of moving water.

Outdoor Adventure Program
Grow & Evolve
Outdoor Adventure experiences are introduced gradually at Tohkomeupog. Initial training happens right at camp, using the climbing wall, trail network, and private lake as practice environments before heading into the field. This helps prepare campers for each new challenge. Most of the trips at Tohkomeupog also involve overnight camping. Our youngest campers frequently camp out on the far reaches of our own property. In this way, they get the feel of a wilderness experience within close proximity to camp.
The Outdoor Adventure program is then designed to grow and evolve with the boys as they advance through older clans. Standard trips, such as hiking and flat water canoeing, become more challenging and extensive, and a greater variety of options become available. Campsites are often established along the trail, or on the river’s edge, and more responsibility for trip preparation and campsite management is shared with older campers.
Safety is the top priority across every adventure activity, without exception.
Outdoor Adventure Program
Spirit of Adventure
The Outdoor Adventure Program is designed to introduce boys to new self-confidence. These adventures will instill within each camper a greater feeling of appreciation and respect for the natural environment. Boys will develop the skill and experience needed to enjoy new challenges and lifelong outdoor adventures.
