COVID-19: Alumni Dates

The 2020 season at Tohkomeupog has been anything but typical.  With the shadow of COVID-19 hanging over our heads, it was felt that the best way to take care of our campers this summer was not to have them with us.  It was a tough decision to make; a strange concept to embrace – camp without kids.  I can sincerely say we have missed the company of our campers this summer.

On the positive side, if you have to be “stuck” somewhere during a pandemic, this beautiful little valley is not a bad place to be.  We have had many visitors, camp friends of old and alumni who have stopped by to say hello… and to take a splash in the “Lake of Heavenly Blue.”   Speaking of the lake, if you have not had a recent opportunity to dip your toes in, I may have some good news for you.

Alumni Weekend Dates:  August 28 - 30, 2020

The Alumni Board of Directors, after much consideration, has opted to forego an official Alumni Weekend this year.  It certainly makes sense; for many people the thought of big gatherings is very uncomfortable right now.  Camp wants to support a strong, positive example… we have total respect and understanding for the Board’s decision.

For those who were looking forward to the weekend, please rest assured that Tohkomeupog is still here... and the lake remains refreshing as ever.  If you desire a brief respite from your home routine, you are still welcome to visit camp.  We have been renting out cabins throughout the summer.  A selection of cabins and lodge rooms has been set aside for Alumni Weekend dates.

Following with the “not a typical summer” theme, this will be a highly modified experience for alumni, simplified in many ways.  There will be no food service provided, and no program scheduled.  Essentially it will be BYO everything.  Cabins are naturally spread out which gives everyone the personal living space they need to socially distance as much as desired.

During the weekend, alumni will have use of the tennis courts, hiking trails, camp waterfront facilities and Sunset Beach.  You are welcome to bring your own grills for cooking.  It will be a different alumni experience for sure, yet we believe it could be a wonderful opportunity for alumni to enjoy cherished getaway time at camp and catch up with some friendly faces around the campfire
