Trips
Camp
Tohkomeupog is fortunate to be located both within the Lakes Region
of New Hampshire, as well as on the edge of the White Mountain National
Forest. This creates endless possibilities for exploration and adventure.
By foot on the trail, or by canoe on the river, our campers have
journeyed into some spectacular wilderness areas. They have felt
the satisfaction of standing upon a high mountain peak beholding
natures majesty spread out before them. They have felt the
thrill of maneuvering through a swift moving river and the
peace of paddling at sunset on a beautiful expanse of lake. All
boys in camp will participate on overnight camping trips throughout
the summer. The youngest boys may do day trips, followed by a campout
somewhere on the far reaches of our own property. Older boys may
pack all of their food and gear with them, setting up camp somewhere
along the trail, or on the river. Regardless of how they get to
wherever they are going, it will be an incredible and long-remembered
journey.
Adventure
- In
recent years, camp has expanded the trip curriculum by incorporating
a variety of adventure activities.
Opportunities such as Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing, White Water
Canoeing and Sea Kayaking are now an exciting part of our routine.
These activities, however, are anything but routine. All adventure
activities focus on safety as the top priority and initial
training will often be done right at camp. A network of mountain
biking trails, a climbing wall, and of course, our private lake,
enables boys to practice appropriate techniques before heading out
into the wild. Other adventure facilities include high and low ropes
initiative courses. Here the challenge assumes many identities.
High in the trees, individual campers must search within to push
personal boundaries of determination and courage. At ground level,
individuals must learn to communicate and work together to resolve
problems and negotiate obstacles.
The
Waterfront Undeveloped and unspoiled, our private little
lake offers sanctuary to loon, beaver, otter and heron not
to mention an active group of enthusiastic campers. Nestled comfortably
amongst the pines, the waterfront is undeniably one of the most
alluring and popular places in camp. Tohkomeupog considers learning
to swim an important accomplishment for every boy and we
follow standards as set by the American Red Cross. A water trampoline,
diving board, rolling logs and fishing are popular free-swim activities.
Beyond the boundaries of the swimming area, the waters of Purity
Lake support a variety of small craft movement, including sailing,
rowing, canoeing and playaking. Across the lake, at the water-ski
beach; campers roar with delight as rushing winds mold their faces
into determined smiles. Encouragement and instruction is offered
in waterskiing, wakeboarding and knee boarding. Safety is stressed
at all times! Certified Lifeguards are present whenever campers
are involved in any aquatic activities.
Team
Sports At Tohkomeupog, team sports are carefully blended
with other traditional activities to provide for a balanced and
varied program. Although we do not consider ourselves a sports camp,
opportunities are provided for all boys to improve their understanding
and skill in a variety of team sports. Our camp facilities support
active programs in tennis, lacrosse, street hockey, baseball, basketball
and soccer. Our coaches are talented counselors who participate
on various high school and college teams. Competition at Tohkomeupog
exists internally, within the age groups, and also extends to events
with neighboring camps. These events are highly anticipated. The
level of competition at these events may be intense, yet they are
based on principles of sincere fun and sportsmanship. For boys who
are not drawn towards participation in team sports, a highly competitive
nature is not necessary to have a successful summer at Tohkomeupog.
Traditional
Activities-
Some of the most unique and memorable educational opportunities
at Tohkomeupog are found within more traditional camp endeavors.
These are experiences that may not be readily available to many
boys at home. Shooting an arrow into a target, building a campfire,
pitching a tent, paddling a canoe or looking at the stars without
interference from city lights - all contribute towards the essence
of a camp experience. Archery and Riflery are consistently two of
our most popular activities. Following national standards of instruction
and safety, both of these programs require disciplined patience,
determined focus - and offer an extremely satisfying personal challenge. |
